The wall of Piedrahita

The first part of the Wall of Piedrahita is formed by a square figure which perimeter would be about 1250 meters, delimiting within an area of approximately 11.5 hectares. The walls would not be very high and would include masonry and lime mortar doors except where stalls would be used. In the angles of the quadrilateral there were different doors opened, with roads linking the town with Ávila, El Miron, La Horcajada and El Barco; however since the Middle Ages the original layout underwent renovations and several reconstructions so for example, it is known that in the fourteenth century the new gate of the Villa, which linked the Plaza Mayor and the Castle of the Dukes of Alba, was opened in the southern Canvas street or in La Fortaleza. In the eighteenth century it is also known as the Puerta de Ávila and was rebuilt.

Finally, after the War of Independence, much of its route was destroyed and over time its remains have become less visible due to the construction of houses attached to the wall.
