Carmelitas Descalzas church and convent
The convent of the Carmelitas Descalzas was founded in 1460 by Doña Maria Alvarez de Vargas y Acebedo, she was a noble born in Piedrahita and one of the first nuns of this convent, which was also used by the daughters of the nobles of the surroundings. It was held under the jurisdiction of the Obispo de Avila until the year 1526. Since that date it followed the guide of the Carmelitas and in 1528 the convent became one more of the properties of the Duke of Alba. Due to this, nowadays we can see the his ducal coat on the walls of the building.
